Im März, wenn Brauntöne noch das Bild des Waldes beherrschen, sind die zarten blauvioletten Blüten am Waldboden das erste Zeichen des einsetzenden Frühlings. Die hübschen Pflanzen nutzen die Zeit, bevor die Blätter der Bäume austreiben und ihnen das Licht rauben. Die Lebensdauer der Blüten beträgt etwa acht Tage.
